Ctrlr — iOS MIDI Controller

Getting Started

Ctrlr connects to Ableton Live over your local WiFi network. The Mac companion app (CtrlrHelper) must be running on the same network as your iPhone.

Setup

1. Install the Mac companion app. Open CtrlrHelper on your Mac. It lives in the menu bar.

2. Install the Ableton Remote Script. Tap the install button in CtrlrHelper. Restart Ableton Live after installation.

3. Enable the Remote Script in Ableton. Open Ableton → Preferences → Link, Tempo & MIDI. Under Control Surface, select "Ctrlr". Set Input and Output to "Ctrlr".

4. Connect from your iPhone. Open Ctrlr on your iPhone. It will auto-discover CtrlrHelper on your local network.

MIDI Learn

Macro buttons send on a second port called "Ctrlr Map". To use MIDI Learn in Ableton, enable Remote for the "Ctrlr Map" input in Ableton Preferences → MIDI.

Troubleshooting

App won't connect. Make sure your iPhone and Mac are on the same WiFi network. Check that CtrlrHelper is running in the menu bar.

Controls not working in Ableton. Verify the Ctrlr Remote Script is selected in Ableton Preferences and that Ableton was restarted after installation.

ARM/LOOP toggling wrong. These are momentary controls — Ableton manages toggle state internally. Each press sends a trigger pulse.
